01. Glittering Prize (Club Mix) 04:58

INFO > This 1990 CD reissue includes both sides of the Peter Walsh produced “Glittering Prize” 12″ single (Virgin VS 511), and the extended version of “New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)” exclusive to a 1983 Italian release (Virgin VINX 1). Ten years later, Usura liberally sampled “New Gold Dream” for their hit, “Open Your Mind”.

Simple Minds – War Babies

01. War Babies (Single Version) 04:20
02. I Travel (Utah Saints Mix) 07:57
03. The American (Interference Mix) 07:19

INFO > Simple Minds’ 1998 album “Neapolis” spawned two decent singles—”Glitterball” and “War Babies”—but of greater interest at the time were new remixes of older material included as bonus tracks. Union Jack, Philadelphia Bluntz, Jam & Spoon, Fila Brazillia, Waiwan, Fluke, and Utah Saints reinterpreted classic cuts like “Waterfront,” “Love Song,” “Theme For Great Cities,” and “Don’t You Forget About Me.” My personal favorite is the Interference mix of “The American,” exclusive to this release.

NOTE > Can anyone confirm who produced that mix? Keith LeBlanc and Tim Simenon collaborated under the name Interference in the mid-to-late 1990s, and Simenon remixed the band’s 1995 single, “Hypnotised,” so perhaps it’s them.

UPDATE > Acid Ted has confirmed that Keith LeBlanc and Tim Simenon are indeed due credit for the Interference mix. Additionally, he has kindly posted the original 12″ mix of “The American” here—nice one.

Simple Minds – I Travel

Simple Minds
“I Travel”
1980/1990 Virgin Records Ltd (UK)

01. I Travel 06:15
02. Celebrate 05:03
03. Film Theme 02:18

INFO > Produced by John Leckie, “I Travel” was Simple Mind’s fourth single, initially released on Arista in 1980 (ARIST 372), re-released with new artwork and different B-sides two years later (ARIST 448), then reissued by Virgin with yet another sleeve in 1983 (VS 578). When Virgin reissued the band’s singles on CD in 1990, “I Travel” was designated as the starting point; on this version, original follow-up single “Celebrate” is included as a bonus track.
