INFO > Written by Ian McCulloch and Johnny Marr, “On Top Of The World” was the official song of the England national football team for the 1998 World Cup. In addition to the Echo & The Bunnymen frontman and former Smiths guitarist, other contributors to the track include Simon Fowler (Ocean Colour Scene), Thomas Scott (Space), and members of Spice Girls. Despite reaching 9 on the UK Singles Chart, the tune was universally panned; Paul Oakenfold’s remix improves upon the original.

INFO > Penned by Ian McCulloch and Johnny Marr, “On Top Of The World” was the official song of the England team for the 1998 World Cup. Despite the indie credibility of Echo & The Bunnymen, Ocean Colour Scene, Space, and, err, Spice Girls, the single was a flop. Even Paul Oakenfold couldn’t salvage the tune, although these Perfecto mixes are a vast improvement on the original.

INFO > After leaving Echo & The Bunnymen in 1988, Ian McCulloch recorded his first solo album, produced by former Gentle Giant bassist Ray Shulman. Three singles were taken from 1989’s “Candleland”: “Proud To Fall,” “Faith & Healing,” and the title track. This US CD maxi-single compiles mixes of “Faith & Healing” from Justin Strauss and Mark Saunders, along with B-sides and the Gil Norton remix of “Proud To Fall.”
