FACT > Released in 2002, “24 Hour Party People” is director Michael Winterbottom’s celluloid dramatization depicting the rise and fall of Manchester’s Factory Records. Frank Cottrell Boyce’s screenplay takes more than its fair share of artistic license, blending fact and fiction into an entertaining and humorous account of Tony Wilson’s legendary indie label. Sadly, this excellent film is currently out-of-print on DVD, and long overdue for reissue on Blu-ray.

The accompanying CD is less of a proper soundtrack and more a memento of the era depicted in the film, covering the rise of punk in 1976 to the closing of The Haçienda in 1997. The collection includes several unique and exclusive edited versions. Every track is a classic, with only one out-of-place anomaly: a live recording of “New Dawn Fades” performed by New Order with Moby, Billy Corgan, and John Frusciante.
