INFO > In the late-1960s, songwriters and producers Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff began honing a signature soul style which would become known as ‘the Philly Sound.’ The duo, along with fellow producer Thom Bell, founded Philadelphia International Records (PIR) in 1971; the label enjoyed immense success throughout the 1970s and into the 1980s. The 2008 box set “Love Train: The Sound Of Philadelphia” presents PIR’s biggest hits, along with a selection of Gamble & Huff’s earlier productions.
