INFO > “I Wouldn’t Normally Do This Kind Of Thing” was the third of five singles released from Pet Shop Boys’ 1993 album, “Very.” Consolidated here are all nine tracks from the two UK CD singles, additional mixes from European CD singles, the Beatmasters Radio Edit from a UK promo, and a special edit of the Nude Mix. Very special thanks to Andrei and eLeMeNOhPeaQ for their contributions.

LIVE > Pet Shop Boys are bringing their “Electric” tour to The Mann Center in Philadelphia this evening. The only other time that PSB played in Philly was over a decade ago, in 2002 (still trying to figure out why I missed that show). Situated between the more desirable destinations of NY and DC, Philadelphia tends to get passed over by many artists on tour. Also, the casino resorts of Atlantic City, NJ have been luring bigger acts away from Philly for years. Frankly, I’d much rather attend concerts in Manhattan, but it’s not always logistically convenient. However, The Mann’s open-air amphitheatre is quite conducive to having a good time, especially when the weather is just right.

  1. good luck :-) very was the very first album by pet shop boys that i heard, i still love it very much.

three verys in one sentence, yay!

  2. Even though they are already in my collection, I’m Loving this single and your string of PSBssssss. ‘

    Euphoric camp to the max!
This and Liberation are actually my top faves of the singles released from Very.
And that Sasha remix….ACE! Shame the Sasha Dub was never on CD

    • Thanks Ric! By the way, the concert was spectacular (of course) – great mix of seldom-heard tunes, choice hits, and new material. Unfortunately, I think the arty production went well over the heads of the unrefined Philly crowd.

Alas, so many tracks I wish were available on CD…

  3. I pulled the various single releases out a few weeks ago, and actually made an edit of the Nude Mix…how funny. This was a great choice for single release. However, (bet you didn’t see that coming) I didn’t care too much for the Beatmasters 7″. For some reason, it just never clicked with me. The Grandballroom Mix was the one mix that I waited to get, and I finally added the UK CD Maxi #1 to my collection a few years after the single release. It’s an okay mix, musically reminding me of MURK a bit, but kept using the “I feel like dancing, sing like lovers sing” lyric over and over.

The final 3 tracks/mixes on this US CD Maxi are real gems, though.

  4. I forgot to ask…would you like me to up the additional mixes from UK CDM 1?
I Wouldn’t Normally Do This Kind Of Thing

    01 Beatmasters 7″ 4:46
    04 Grandballroom Mix 6:39
    05 Wild Dub Pitch 7:46

    • Yes, please! And any chance that you have the Voxigen Mix from one of the Euro CD singles?

      • Wow. I totally forgot about the Voxigen Mix. I never had that CD Single that it was featured on. I think a friend shared the track a few years back, but it was in 192kbps. I’ll keep my eye out for it (have a request for the mix out there) and will post if it is sent to me. ‘Til then, I’ll upload the 3 tracks from above, and post them in the SHARE section of the blog.

  5. UPDATE > Completely revised the post and updated link to include all available mixes from digital sources.

    • Nice MEGA post! Looks like there’s still one I am missing, which is track 13, the Beatmasters Radio Edit. Hmm. I am now downloading the entire batch, as you have me wondering if I have overlooked yet another edit/mix.

Oh, and be forewarned, I will likely being working on my longer edit of the Nude Mix over the weekend, trying to include the bridge from the Beatmasters 7″ and somehow making smooth transitions. ;)

  6. I should have known better to type my response before downloading. First off, I meant to note it was track 12. Second, I didn’t have this Radio Edit (likely because you mentioned it was from a UK Promo), so thanks again for completing the mixes of this fine single! Thirdly, I wanted to see what I could do with my longer edit while the file was downloading. Let’s just say it doesn’t work very well segueing from the Nude Mix to the Beatmasters 7″. Even though they are both mixed by the Beatmasters, the mixes sound quite a bit different. The 7″ Mix has a wider dynamic, is a bit louder and has a fast BPM. I could fix the last 2, but the difference in the sound dynamic was just too much.

    • Yes, while similar, the two Beatmasters mixes are distinctly different, so I can imagine the inherent difficulty in attempting to blend elements from both. For the record, your edit of the Nude Mix is spot on and I wouldn’t change a thing. Thanks!

    • yeah, i second that – your edit of the nude mix is superb, thank you. maybe you could upload the wav/lossless version of your edit? :-) i think i probably could replicate your work myself but i’m too lazy)))) and it takes time and full focus

      • Sorry, I never made the switch to working with lossless files…only (usually) 320kbps MP3 files. But, thanks for the comment on the edit!
