INFO > Volumes I to III in FFRR’s classic series of house compilations showcased “The House Sound Of Chicago.” This fourth installment, curated by Jazzy M, surveys the UK acid house scene of the late 1980s. The collection is particularly notable for the inclusion of two tracks produced by a pre-Orbital Paul Hartnoll, working under the alias D.S. Building Contractors. Likewise, future superstar Paul Oakenfold added one of his earliest productions, which incorporates parts of Martin Luther King’s legendary 1963 speech. There are also contributions from Bam Bam, Robert Owens, Tony Thorpe, Danny D, Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley, Simon Harris, and Kevin Saunderson. The album closes with the 1979 single “Underwater” by German sound engineer Harald Thumann, who helped pioneer the use of MIDI. Speaking of ‘Master Reese’ Saunderson, check out his recent posting on Soundcloud—a poignant commentary on sampling gone wrong.

NOTE > The US edition has fewer tracks and a different running order, but includes a couple of alternate selections and mixes.
